What to Expect?
When you schedule your initial chimney sweep with us we don’t just sweep the dust and creosote out of your chimney, we inspect it with a digital chimney camera to ensure that there are no cracks or gaps in the fireplace/furnace system.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Chimneys or Chases (Built from wood instead of brick/block) are purposely built to ensure that all the toxic gasses from the combustion of wood in your fireplace or your furnace, properly travels up and out the chimney to ensure poisonous carbon-monoxide does not get into the home.
Whenever there is a venting of toxic gas especially in your home, you want to ensure that there are no cracks or gaps inside the chimney that the gas can escape from and enter the home. Carbon-Monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas that can be fatal if you are exposed for long periods of time, we HIGHLY recommend a carbon monoxide detector anytime the fireplace/furnace is in use.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO PRIOR TO/DURING TO MY APPOINTMENT
There are a couple of things a customer can do to help their appointment go as smoothly as possible.
Please give as much information as possible on the initial call about your specific situation. Examples include things such as if you have or have had birds in your fireplace if your chimney is taller than average or the roofing material is slate or rubber etc.
We ask that customers remove any items from the front of your fireplace to give our technicians easy uninterrupted access to the fireplace. This ensures nothing gets damaged and our technicians are safe from any type of tripping and/or injury.
During our chimney inspection with our digital camera, all appliances venting into the chimney will need to be cut off at the time of inspection. The heat from a running furnace or a wood burning fire the night before can damage our camera so we ask that customers not burn any wood in their fireplaces during the day leading up to the appointment. Our technicians will turn off and restart any appliances after the inspection process is complete and everything is deemed safe to use.
Once the technician finishes the sweep and inspection they will create documentation to note any issues that may be found and will email you the inspection report. This will include a description of the damage found, why the damage is a problem, how we fix it, and the cost. This ensures full transparency and honesty with our customers.
